Director of Synthetic Chemistry

Job Description

• Direct synthetic chemistry strategy across Energetics, Mining & Metals, and Polymers, including route selection, process development, safety, cost optimization, and laboratory buildout.
• Lead and grow a chemistry organization of up to 8 scientists; hire two senior technical anchors and establish technical standards.
• Develop the Energetics program from early laboratory work through a validated 10 kg/day pilot while managing campaign sequencing and technical outcomes.
• Requires a PhD in Organic, Process, or Materials Chemistry plus 12+ years of relevant post-PhD experience, or equivalent depth; also requires 3+ years managing chemists against external delivery timelines.
• Onsite 5 days/week in the Boulder/Lafayette, Colorado area; salary is $215,000–$275,000/year plus equity, with up to 15% travel and hands-on HazMat/Energetics laboratory work.
• Must handle ITAR/export-controlled information and meet federal eligibility requirements for access to explosive materials as an employee possessor.
