Genetics and Genomics Intern: Dairy

Job Description

• Paid, on-site Genetics and Genomics Intern role with ABS Global, a Genus Company, in DeForest, WI, supporting dairy genetic research and product development.
• Analyze large-scale dairy genetic and performance datasets using statistical and analytic tools for data mining, pipeline development, trait discovery, genomic evaluation, and genetic program development.
• Conduct experimental design, investigate statistical models and analytical methods, and generate insights for genetic strategies, proprietary programs, custom genetic indices, and on-farm decision making.
• Requires enrollment as an MS or PhD student in Animal Science, Plant Science, Quantitative Genetics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field; availability for at least 12 weeks during summer; and U.S. work authorization without sponsorship.
• Requires strong analytical skills and familiarity with statistical packages such as R and Python; preferred experience includes genetic/genomic data, bioinformatics, estimating breeding values, breeding index development, scripting/programming, and direct agricultural experience.
• Internship is 40 hours per week, typically during normal office hours, may require work outside normal business hours, pays $26–$30/hr, and closes applications on October 31st.
