OPS Research Laboratory Technician II

Job Description

• Entry-level technician role operating and maintaining teaching laboratory facilities and equipment in FGCU’s Department of Marine and Earth Sciences Hydrogeology Laboratory in Fort Myers, FL.
• Prepare laboratories, solvents, solutions, reagents, apparatuses, equipment, and course supplies; perform equipment setup, breakdown, maintenance, inspections, calibration, and troubleshooting.
• Conduct surface water and groundwater sampling, water quality analyses, and genetic analyses on natural field collections and laboratory cultures.
• Maintain safety and regulatory compliance through environmental health and safety audits, accurate records, chemical storage, biohazardous-material handling and disposal, and adherence to departmental, national, and laboratory safety protocols.
• Requires a BS or MS in Environmental Science or an equivalent field such as geology, marine science, or engineering; experience with field and laboratory sampling and analyses, Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, R, and JMP; ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for field sampling.
