Job Description
• Principal Engineer – Planning R&D role at MISO Energy supporting research and development for the electric grid; on-site in Carmel, IN or Eagan, MN.
• Develop analytical methods, conceptual designs, test benches, and prototype workflows using tools such as PSCAD, ETRAN+, and SSR/SSAT to evaluate emerging stability challenges.
• Establish planning, monitoring, validation, and operational processes covering power flow, dynamic stability, PMU-based disturbance checks, resource adequacy, market dynamics, and interconnection/retirement workflows.
• Requires a Master’s degree or higher in a specified electrical, computer, or electronics engineering discipline, at least 10 years of relevant experience, electric energy industry experience, and power system modeling expertise.
• Preferred knowledge includes RTO/ISO operations, generation-fleet impacts, and NERC/FERC regulatory and compliance requirements; salary is $146,000-$171,000 USD annually plus potential annual bonus.
