Utility Construction Inspector

Job Description

• Full-time Utility Construction Inspector – Water role with the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities in Kansas City, KS; work is field-based, with work mode not explicitly specified.
• Inspect water mains, water services, utility construction activity, installations, repairs, and minor construction or alignment changes for compliance with plans, BPU standards, safety codes, and regulatory requirements.
• Collect field data, update maps and records, establish construction layouts, record GPS points, conduct equipment and hydrant water-flow testing, and perform elementary design work.
• Requires a High School Diploma or GED, at least 2 years of utility construction, inspection, or regulatory compliance experience, and a valid driver’s license; utility inspection, building code, environmental standards, or safety standards certification is preferred.
• Must understand potable, recycled, or wastewater infrastructure; interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, construction plans, and GIS-based utility maps; and comply with EPA guidelines, AWWA Standard C651, KDHE procedures, and local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.
